Harriet Tamen is an international corporate transactional attorney with over thirty years experience advising clients on legal issues involved in trade, business and financial matters. In her practice she handles matters involving the structuring, negotiating and documenting complex commercial financial and trade transactions with particular emphasis on the emerging economies of Latin America, the C. I. S. and Eastern Europe. Ms. Tamen's specific areas of expertise include:
- Purchase and sale of assets; distribution, sales and license agreements; organization of domestic and foreign joint ventures and corporations; creation of partnerships and LLC; consulting contracts for business development and the provision of services.
- Trade and export finance; standby and commercial letters of credit; project finance; pledge and collateral agreement; advising on corporate financing and development strategies.
- Engineering, procurement and construction contracts for companies in the international energy and power business; cross-border financings; bank lending, security agreements and guarantees as well expertise in commercial and residential mortgages.
Ms. Tamen previously served as Counsel – Vice President in the International Corporate Finance Division of Citibank and was a counsel for U.S. Branches for Credit Lyonnais. She has both lectured and chaired panels on international trade and banking issues at the Harriman Institute at Columbia University, the Financial Services Volunteer Association, and the American Women's Economic Development Corporation.
Ms. Tamen has been a member of the Soviet-American Banking Law Working Group (SABLAW) where she Edited and contributed to a text book on commercial banking. She is a member of the American Bar Association and the Bar Association of the City of New York.
Ms. Tamen received her J.D. from the National Law Center, George Washington University and her A.B. from Bryn Mawr College. She is fluent in French.
